“America’s Pastor” Billy Graham Dies at 99

By Ryan Fiore (Copy Editor)

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – “Billy Graham died this past week. I never got to meet Billy Graham, but he was personally a man I came to respect greatly,” were the opening words of a sermon by Pastor Ken Foust of Grace Community Presbyterian Church in Lower Burrell on Sunday, February 25. Foust is one of the many millions who was inspired by the evangelist Billy Graham, who died February 21 at the age of 99.

Billy Graham’s son, Franklin, shared the news of his father’s death on February 21. “My father Billy Graham was once asked, ‘Where is Heaven?’ He replied, ‘Heaven is where Jesus is and I am going to Him soon!’ This morning, at the age of 99, he departed this world into eternal life in Heaven, prepared by the Lord Jesus Christ – the Savior of the World – whom he claimed for nearly 80 years.”

William Franklin Graham Jr. was born November 7, 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to William and Morrow Franklin. He grew up with two younger sisters and a younger brother. Nearly a week before his 16th birthday, Graham attended a revival meeting led by Dr. Mordecai Ham; a revival meeting that would change his life forever.

An Entertainment Weekly promotional photo for the critically-panned Marvel’s Inhumans.

2017 has been an up and down year for the Disney company.  On the upside, all three of its Marvel Studios releases (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok), the Beauty and the Beast live-action remake, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales have all been critical (except for Pirates) and economic successes, with Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Pixar’s Coco also expected to succeed.

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa.- “Here’s the story of a lovely lady” could not be a more perfect first line for the intro to the late 1960s, early 1970s show, The Brady Bunch, which featured a close-up shot of Florence Henderson playing mother Carol Brady, who has three girls, Marcia, Jan, and Cindy, because even though Henderson played a lovely lady on television, in reality, she truly was one.

Henderson, who was most known for her Brady Bunch role, passed away November 24 at the age of 82, due to heart failure.

The Brady Bunch first aired in 1969 and depicted two widowed parents, each raising three children, who were going to become a family of eight, due to marriage. Alongside mother Carol Brady and her three girls, Marcia (played by Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen), the opening theme song showcased father Mike Brady (played by the late Robert Reed) and his three boys, Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher Knight), and Bobby (Mike Lookinland), as well as the housekeeper, (the late Ann B. Davis).

Haunted Houses: You’re in For a Scare

By Darren Myers

Managing & Online Editor

UPPER BURRELL, Pa. — The best season is upon us: Fall. The days, once long and warm, are now short-lived. The nights now creep up on us faster than before. There is a crisp chill rushing through the air. Leaves are falling as the wind is blowing. The weather is more comfortable. The fashion is better. The colors you see outside almost leave you in disbelief. The longer nights that accompany fall open the doors to haunted houses.
