NEW KENSINGTON, Pa.– The Soccer Club at Penn State New Kensington is working hard to develop a team involving a wide range of players due to its current goal of creating a varsity team for both the boys and the girls on the New Kensington campus the fall semester of 2010. Games are currently held at the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena in Harmarville, PA where students are free to come and watch and then decide if they’d like to be a part of the team. All games and practices are free and open to the public.
Varsity sports teams have been booming in colleges around the U.S. and are a big part of college life. Whether or not you’re participating in the sport, just a fan or even just like watching the sport, it’s everywhere. The athletic department at Penn State New Kensington and the current Soccer Club are determined to create that special varsity team for the Penn State New Kensington campus. Max Pascal, Club President, says “This is possible through the efforts of the club and the faculty that share the passion for soccer on our campus.”
The current PSNK Soccer Club President, Vice President, and Treasurer attend all games and practices and will be available for all students that are interested in the sport to speak to. They can answer all questions of how to manage time efficiently and encourage other students to get involved with sports on the campus. Pascal says, “Students should get involved because it’s a fun time and you get to play the sport you love with people that share your passion.”
The current club participates in an Indoor Soccer League. It is a competitive open-aged co-ed league that is held at the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena (PISA) located in Harmarville, PA. Games are every Thursday ranging in times from 6:50 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and excitement at the PISA to encourage and support the team. There are bleachers available for the fans to relax on, and the admission is always free. Pick-up games are held on Mondays and Wednesdays during PSNK’s common hour at 12:00 p.m.
Students are welcome to join the club at any time. Prospective members are always welcome to contact the President via e-mail or in person. Both experienced and inexperienced students are encouraged to participate.
